The City will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the interim Waterfront Park on Saturday, March 30, from 10 to 11 a.m. Festivities will continue from 2 to 9 p.m. to mark the opening of a sound-responsive, interactive public art installation.
The Community Matching Fund application is now open through April 10, 2019. The Fund promotes collaborative partnerships among City of Alexandria community organizations by providing matching 1:1 dollars for groups that propose fundraising for park and recreation improvement projects. The Fund fosters public/private partnerships and cultivates innovative ways for residents to have a greater stake in improving the park and recreation facilities that they use.
The interim Waterfront Park featuring seating terraces, bench swings, movable furniture and much more is now open! The City’s Waterfront Plan envisions a new public plaza at the foot of King Street encompassing the City owned properties of 1 & 2 King Street, and the existing King Street Park, totaling about one acre.
