City Seeking Lease Space for City Agencies
The City of Alexandria is seeking to lease new office space with the potential to consolidate all of the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) office locations to one single site. The new facility will provide centralized access for clients and resolve parking and space deficiencies by moving into a single site location. The Department of General Services is responsible for negotiating and managing all building leases.
Consolidation of the Department of Community & Human Services (DCHS)- Request for Proposals (RFP)
On Wednesday, December 20, 2017 the City of Alexandria (the “City”) issued a Request for Proposals(RFP) seeking offers for the lease of office space with the potential to consolidate all of the Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) office locations to one single site. The City is seeking responsive offers in which the desired facility should provide contiguous space within one building or adjacent buildings in a campus-style setting within the City of Alexandria. The entity primarily occupying the space will be the Department of Community and Human Services (“DCHS”), which provides social services and public benefits assistance. Courthouse Rooftop Repairs
Beginning Monday, August 27, the City of Alexandria will remove the old
cooling tower and solar panels and replace the old roof on the Alexandria
Courthouse located at 520 King Street. The work will affect pedestrian and
traffic flow on the streets immediately surrounding the Courthouse (500 block
of King Street, 100 block of S. St. Asaph Street, 100 block of S. Pitt Street
and 500 block of Prince Street), as well as parking in the Courthouse Garage
(111 S. Pitt St.) and The Alexandrian hotel garage (480 King St.) during
this process. The Courthouse building, and all courts and offices inside

The City of Alexandria invites interested parties to browse for surplus real estate property that is currently available. The Department of General Services is responsible for public disposal of all City-owned real estate that has been designated as surplus by the Alexandria City Council. All real estate is offered "As-Is," with no warranties or guarantees, expressed or implied, as to kind, character or its fitness for any use, purpose or its ability to be developed for any use or purpose.
King Street Properties Request for Proposals (RFP)
On Monday, April 3, 2017, the City of Alexandria issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the disposition, sale and redevelopment of City-owned surplus real estate located at 912, 916, 920 King Street and 116 South Henry Street. The City was seeking developers that have a proven combination of experience and expertise in the design, development and construction of urban properties. Their expertise could include public-private partnerships, federal tax credit funding mechanisms, multi-family construction, commercial development involving both office and retail and historic district redevelopment. This RFP will be issued for a period of 120 days, closing on July 24, 2017. Provides administrative oversight of all functional areas within the Department including: reporting for the departmental strategic plan, managing City-owned parking lots/structures and associated contracts, Fleet maintenance for 815 vehicles and equipment including the City's Pool vehicles, negotiating and managing building leases, space planning, Animal Shelter contract, City Surplus Real Estate program, Print & Mail services, and the Market Square Farmers Market and Vendor Cart programs.
The Facilities operation is responsible for maintaining the 2.4 million square feet of public buildings owned by the City of Alexandria. Facilities is also responsible for planning and managing all building renovations and new city building construction projects, and providing special event set-up and staffing support.
Fleet Services Division is responsible for maintaining the city's vehicles and major construction equipment. The City has some 800 units in its fleet; not including the school system, public transportation (bus) system vehicles or police motorcycles. Vehicles in the City's Fleet include everything from police patrol cars, pick-up trucks, sedans, hybrid fuel vehicles, dump trucks, tractors, SUVs and more.
Event Planning and Support Services
Special Events are managed through a consortium of city departments. The Department of General Services is responsible for scheduling the use of City Hall, Market Square, Old Town Farmers' Market, and the Market Square Vendor Cart Pilot Program.
Mail and Print Services
The Mail and Print Services Division of General Services is responsible for mail services and internal and outsourced printing and copying for The City. Services are provided to all City departments. Most City Departments receive their USPS mail via General Service's courier. Mail is delivered both to City Hall and satellite buildings. Most print and copy requests can be completed by the Mailroom; however more complex printing or higher volume printing or copying may require your job to be sent to one of our highly qualified vendors. In addition, the Mailroom carries a variety of paper stocks your department may use.
